The Film 'Together' Can Be Streamed, and It Might Make or Break Your Partnership.

We present a challenge for those in enduring partnerships who are fans of the horror genre: Get comfortable with your loved one and stream Together. The critically acclaimed 2025 movie just made its launch on a streaming platform via Hulu. At first glance, it might appear like typical physical horror, but beneath Together exists a profound meditation about the ways we decide to love one another.

A Debut Feature Exploring Partnership Complexities

Together marks the first full-length movie for filmmaker Michael Shanks. It showcases Dave Franco and Alison Brie as Tim and Millie, a pair who are not married that have been together for over ten years. Having wed in actuality in 2017, the two stars infuse a special spark to their roles, expertly portraying both the joys and frustrations of a long-term relationship.

The plot commences when Tim and Millie transition from the metropolis to the country for her career. A commonly used plot device, of course, but that’s primarily where the tropes end. Together evolves into as much a psychological exploration of the pair’s relationship as it is a movie featuring biological frights.

An Otherworldly Trigger

While hiking near their new home, a violent storm occurs, and the protagonists tumble into an subterranean cavern. After being trapped overnight there and finally finding a way out, a strange force starts to affect the pair. This force creates a paranormal intimacy between them that goes far beyond simple connection.

The whole movie is a slow burn horror experience, interspersing moments of fever-dream horrors, unsettling (but not excessively graphic) physical transformations, and authentically humorous exchanges (sometimes in the middle of something horrific). Michael Shanks orchestrates these parts expertly and delivers them in a gradually swelling atmosphere of fear.

Layered Performances

A significant portion of Together is exclusively the two lead actors, and they masterfully render manifold depths to the partnership at the film's core. Millie's sense of self and feeling of intimacy is deteriorating due to a distance. Her underlying frustration of Tim for his hesitance to chase only his failing musical ambitions gradually emerges.

Tim, on the other hand experiences isolation and separated by Millie, who’s the reason they’ve relocated rural and distant from his social circle. He fears the concept of totally forfeiting his personal autonomy in another person. This fear is further exacerbated by the reality he can’t drive and relies on Millie for transportation.

The film's most intelligent aspect in this movie never makes one partner or the other the definite antagonist.

The couple face the type of challenges that arise in long-term unions a decade in. Deep down, they have affection for each other. They find humor with each other, provide solace, and are vulnerable at times. But below this facade, there’s an inescapable feeling of questioning about their bond.

Allegory and Meaning

While the otherworldly presence in Together represent these concerns of unhealthy attachment and fully committing to a partner, the metaphor never feels overly obvious or heavy-handed. Instead, these ickier, creepier moments present a perfect parallel to the relationship narrative. Both the frights and the fights enhance each other symbiotically.

A Divisive Ending

Together’s ending, which remains unspoiled, has left audiences divided on the film’s ultimate message about enmeshed dynamics. Accounts suggest that single viewers have seen the movie as a strong argument for avoiding commitment. Conversely, a few pairs having disagreements found that the film actually helped them make up.

Whether you’re single or coupled up, your own interpretation could potentially serve as a great barometer of how you perceive partnership. Will the conclusion inspire anxiety and horror, or a heartwarming sense of hope? Will you see yourself in either protagonist and yell at the screen, or simply glance toward your significant other and state, “I understand that choice”?

Whatever the case may be, Together is an experiment you can experience today.

Together is available to watch on the streaming service Hulu as of this moment.
